Believe in Community

May 6, 2019

Find the vibrant and close-knit setting you’ve been looking for at Harlow apartments in Navy Yard.

Whether you call it Capitol Riverfront, Navy Yard or Southeast Waterfront, there’s a community brimming with energy to be found here. From community events to the local shops and restaurants to all of the people who have made this neighborhood home, Navy Yard is filled with opportunities to connect more deeply with the place you live.

Harlow Outside-In

Harlow was designed to give a boutique-style living experience with attention to detail and a smaller community. But just because there aren’t as many residents as some of the mega-sized apartment complexes in Navy Yard, it doesn’t mean that the amenities are lacking. Just the opposite, Harlow has a full spectrum of amenities that serve our residents in a way that makes them feel at home. The rooftop lounge offers grilling stations and lounge seating providing a space to gather with friends for food, fun and breathtaking views of DC. Or, you can relax by yourself in the sun then slip into the dipping pool to cool off on a hot day. After all, finding community doesn’t always have to be a group affair. When the weather makes the rooftop option challenging, there’s always the social lounge to kick it. With a kitchen, lots of comfy seating and games, it’s a great spot to hang out with old friends or make new ones.

Canal Park

One of the best things about Harlow is the access to Canal Park, just across the street in your “front yard”. It is a beautiful and central space for recreation, gathering and just taking advantage of a beautiful day. Each block of Canal Park offers a slightly different experience and is worth getting to know about.

Northern Block
The Northern Block has a big, grassy lawn, ideal for your typical park day. Toss a Frisbee, put down a blanket for a picnic, or simply bask in the sun. This is your park-life spot.

Middle Block
The Middle Block has another grassy area where you can play and relax. It also adds benches where you can plug in your devices and make a “work-from-park” day possible. On hot days, water scrims let you splash you feet and cool down. This section of Canal Park also features a small stage that regularly has bands and more entertaining the block.

Southern Block
The Southern Block is the active and social spot in Canal Park. It’s where most organized events are centered. It’s also the part right next to Harlow, so there’s always an outlet for outdoor fun just steps away. In winter, there’s an ice rink to skate the cold away, and when the weather warms up, the popular Dancing Fountains showcase their aquatic choreography. You’ll also be treated to a dose of delectable dough at Wiseguy Pizza in the restaurant space in the park. On the top of this building is the Light Cube, a brilliant feature that adds colored lights, projectors and unlimited possibilities for entertainment in the evenings.

Community by Harlow

With so much going on around us, we’ve picked a few things that will increase your sense of community in Navy Yard.

Go Team!
Get that community feel cheering on the home team with thousands of your closest new friends! The Nationals have a six-game home stand May 14 to May 19, playing the Mets then the Cubs. If you want to be more literal with a community connection, DC United has a home game May 29 at 8 p.m. against the Chicago Fire. Win or lose, these options are sure to stoke an intense feeling of belonging.

The Park Life
Grab some of the season’s best at our outdoor market. The FRESHFARM Capitol Riverfront Farmers Market features a wide selection of farm-fresh food in the park, Sundays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. We’d love for you to join us there May 19, and maybe even take a tour of Harlow to see how easy it would be to get your farmers market goodies home. We’ll also be sponsoring movie nights on the lawn in Canal Park this summer with details coming soon, so follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to stay up-to-date.

In Your Corner
Every good neighborhood needs a little out of the way shop where you can get the essentials: snacks, beer, wine, great sandwiches and more. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Cornercopia. This little deli, tucked away around the corner from Harlow, proves you don’t have to be big to offer a lot.

We hope this inspires you to get out and experience all that this great Southeast DC neighborhood has to offer. And if you schedule a tour at Harlow apartments in SE DC, you can make this fantastic Navy Yard community into your fantastic Navy Yard community.
